Weingut Salwey in Oberrotweil, in the heart of the Kaiserstuhl region, is proud of its history as a classic family-run estate. Yet that tradition only tells part of the story. Konrad is the third generation of Salwey to run the winery and his late father Wolf Dietrich groomed Konrad from an early age. After graduating from Geisenheim, Konrad spends several harvests working with renowned estates in Burgundy and in the neighbouring Alsace. These experiences were the foundation of Konrad’s vision.
Konrad is renowned for his willingness to experiment, he knows it takes daring to try new techniques, and nerve to move on if need be — all in the interest of making better wine. Konrad and his team focus on crafting premium wines exclusively with grapes from the Pinot family – Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Blanc.
“With its unique Mediterranean-like microclimate and high level of gastronomic excellence, the Kaiserstuhl is Germany’s hidden gem and an ideal growing ground to produce world-class wines from the Pinot family. Using the experience gained in his internships at some of Burgundy’s top estates, Konrad dedicates himself to crafting dry Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir are appreciated in top restaurants around the world.”
